Agenda for 11/9

I think it's fair to say that, at this point in time, the Bach is better-learned than Zelenka was at the same point in time last year. As nice as that sounds, the Bach still requires more attention than ever, so please keep reviewing and reviewing and reviewing.

Of particular concern at this point:
  • All S2 entrances. It seems that a handful of S2s are leading the section, while the rest, hiding in back, are waiting to be prompted. Get with it, please.
  • Tenor and Bass melismas:
    • pp11-12
    • pp 15-16
    • p 36 (bass)
  • Bass cadences throughout the 3rd movement
  • For everyone: pp 13 & 16
There are other issues, of course, but the above are of greatest concern. One of the oddities in any choral rehearsal is that those who seem to know their parts the least tend to hide in back--a place where they surely can't hear as well as if they stayed in front. With seating assignments being made this week, this will no longer be an issue, so please prepare!

It's Messiah time, too, so we'll begin resuscitating the great oratorio on Sunday.
